Mr. Vinovich is a partner and has practiced law with Hilbrich Law Firm for over 20 years. He is a trial lawyer who represents victims of medical malpractice, wrongful death, and personal injury. He has extensive experience in handling complex litigation and has obtained numerous multi-million dollar jury verdicts and settlements for his clients. He is a frequent lecturer and moderator of continuing legal education seminars for lawyers involving medical malpractice, litigation, and ethics. He also serves as judge pro tempore in Lake Superior Court, as well as being a mediator and arbitrator.
Mr. Vinovich was born on July 23, 1965, in Newport, Rhode Island. He grew up in Northwest Indiana and graduated from Crown Point High School in 1983. He obtained his undergraduate degree from Purdue University in West Lafayette with a double major in Political Science and History in 1987. He received his law degree from Indiana University in Bloomington in 1990. He is admitted to the Bars of the State of Indiana and the United States District Court, Northern District of Indiana.
Mr. Vinovich is very active in many organizations outside of the law firm. He is currently President-Elect of the Indiana State Bar Association (ISBA). Last year, he was Vice President of the ISBA as well as Chairman of the Member and Membership Benefits Committee. He was Chairman of the House of Delegates in 2009. He has served as a member of the House of Delegates continuously since 1995, and was the Parliamentarian in 2007. He is serving his fourth term on the Board of Governors and was three times a member of the Board's Executive Committee. He was Chairman of the Budget and Finance Committee and served on other committees including the Membership Committee, Legal Ethics Committee, Lawyer Certification Study Committee, and various planning and nominating committees. He was Chairman and Moderator of the State Bar's "Community Forum" pilot project in Lake County in 2001 and has served as judge and coach of the "We The People" Program for many years.
Mr. Vinovich has also been active in the Lake County Bar Association (LCBA). He is former President (2000) and Vice President (1998) and continuously served as a Board of Director from 1996 to 2008. He served as Chairman for many LCBA committees, including the Continuing Legal Education Committee, Program and Social Committee, and Young Lawyer's Section. He served as a member of the LCBA's Personnel Committee, Scholarship Committee, and several ad hoc committees. He was appointed Moderator and Chairman of various LCBA functions including Bench/Bar Conferences, Bridge the Gap Seminars, and several Judicial Robing Ceremonies.
Now an Emeritus member with the Calumet American Inns of Court, Mr. Vinovich served as Secretary of that organization from 1997 to 1998 and has been a member since its inception. He is an Indiana Bar Foundation "Life Fellow" and sat on its Board of Directors in 2011, as well as the Board of the Indiana Continuing Legal Education Forum. He is also a Sustaining Member of the Indiana Trial Lawyers Association (ITLA) and has been a member of the ITLA since 1990. He has served on the Advisory Board of Lake Circuit Court's Domestic Relations Counseling Bureau. He was group leader for the Boy Scouts' Explorers Program for several years.
Mr. Vinovich lives in Crown Point with his wife Jennifer and their two children, Alison (age 17) and Jack (age 15). He is involved in many community activities and clubs, has taught Sunday School to junior high and high school students, served on various committees of his church, was University Club President in 2009, coached Little League Baseball and AAU Basketball, and enjoys golf and snow skiing.
